Hyderabad(Sep, 22) : On World Rhinoceros Day, Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad played host to a heartwarming and educational event. Approximately 40 students from Devana School for the Blind in Begumpet, Hyderabad, participated in a day-long program organized in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature, India, and Factset Volunteer organization. The blind students were treated to a special nature trail program, meticulously conducted with utmost care. Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, IFS, the Curator of Nehru Zoological Park, provided the students with detailed explanations about various species and their roles in maintaining ecological balance, with a particular focus on the Rhinoceros enclosure.
The students were not merely passive observers; they had the opportunity to touch models of animals like Spotted Deers, Tigers, and Lions, strategically placed throughout the zoo, enabling them to gain a tactile understanding of these creatures. Their visit culminated in a memorable experience that expanded their knowledge of wild animals.
In a show of support for World Rhinoceros Day, a team of 20 members from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, led by Chakravarthy and other officials, visited Nehru Zoological Park and pledged to adopt a Rhinoceros and support its maintenance.
Furthermore, the generosity of individuals extended beyond the blind students’ visit. K. Krishna Murthy, an employee of M/s Singareni Collieries Company Limited in Hyderabad, adopted an Elephant for a month and presented a donation of Rs. 25,000 towards its adoption and care. This heartening gesture was appreciated by VSNV Prasad, IFS, Conservator of Forests/Director, Zoo Parks, Hyderabad, and Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, IFS, Curator of Nehru Zoological Park.
The event saw the presence of esteemed individuals, including Surrender Pandey, IFS (Retd), and several key officers from Nehru Zoological Park, WWF, and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited. It was a day filled with education, inspiration, and a deep sense of commitment to wildlife conservation.
