Just hours after the Telangana Police closed the case on Rohith Vemula’s death, the office of the Telangana DGP issued a statement announcing the state’s decision to initiate a re-investigation into the case. This move follows doubts expressed by Rohith’s mother, Radhika Vemula.
Hyderabad : Amidst the ongoing circulation of news stories and reports across various media platforms regarding Crime No.20/2016 of Gachibowli Police Station, Cyberabad, concerning the tragic suicide of Hyderabad Central University student Rohit Vemula on 17.01.2016, it’s imperative to clarify certain aspects. The case, under the purview of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madhapur, concluded with the preparation of a final closure report before November 2023.
This report was formally submitted to the jurisdictional court on 21.03.2024. However, due to expressed doubts from the deceased Rohit Vemula’s mother and others regarding the conducted investigation, a decision has been made to pursue further inquiry into the matter. A petition will be presented to the relevant court seeking permission for additional investigation. This step reflects the commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
