Election Code Enforcement: GRP Secunderabad Confiscates Rs. 37.5 Lakh Cash Stash

Hyderabad : On March 31, 2024, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) of Secunderabad made a significant seizure of unaccounted cash amounting to Rs. 37,50,000/- in light of the model code of conduct for the Parliament Elections. Acting upon the directives of Mahesh M Bhagwat, IPS, ADGP of Railways & Road Safety, Telangana State, the operation was conducted at 1820 hrs by B. Saieashwar Goud, IRP/SC, along with his team and in coordination with RPF staff.

During routine checking near gate no 03 at the middle foot over bridge on Platform No.01 of Secunderabad Railway Station, the team apprehended one individual identified as P Laxman Ram, who was found in possession of a bag containing the aforementioned amount in cash. Despite inquiries, Ram failed to produce valid documents or provide satisfactory explanations regarding the source of the cash. Consequently, the cash was seized under the cover of a panchanama.

The matter was promptly reported to higher authorities and communicated to the Returning Officer, Sanath Nagar. Subsequently, the seized cash was handed over to the Income Tax department, Ayakar Bhavan, Hyderabad, with proper acknowledgment for further necessary action.

The seized cash comprised fifteen bundles of 500 notes, with each bundle containing Rs. 2,50,000/-, totaling Rs. 37,50,000/-. This operation was carried out under the supervision of Shaik Saleema, IPS, Superintendent of Railway Police Secunderabad, with the diligent efforts of S.N. Jawed, DSRP/SC/Urban, and the leadership of B. Saieashwar Goud, IRP/Secunderabad, alongside dedicated team members.

The successful outcome of this operation highlights the commitment and efficiency of the GRP Secunderabad and RPF staff in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. Their commendable efforts will be duly recognized and rewarded.
