Telangana Government Plans Comprehensive Measures for Moharram Events

Hyderabad : Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has assured that the government will take all necessary steps to avoid any inconvenience during the programs organized for the holy month of Moharram. A review meeting was held at the Telangana State Secretariat, where Minister Prabhakar, along with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and government adviser Mohammad Shabbir Ali, discussed arrangements with officials from various departments and Shia religious leaders.

Minister Prabhakar emphasized the importance of coordination among all departments to ensure the smooth execution of Moharram events. He highlighted the need for police picketing at the Ashur Khanas, the locations where Moharram events are held. To facilitate the observances, he directed that pending drainage and road repair works in the surrounding areas of Ashur Khanas be completed immediately. Additionally, he called for the installation of high mast lights at all event locations.

Special measures are planned for the day of the main elephant procession. The electricity department will install special electric lights, while the water board will ensure the availability of drinking water. GHMC officials are tasked with overseeing sanitation works, and mobile toilets along with other basic facilities will be provided.

To prevent traffic disruptions during the Moharram procession, police officials have been instructed to implement strict security measures, particularly around Bibi-Ka-Alam, the starting point of the main procession. Government Advisor Mohammad Shabbir Ali emphasized the provision of all necessary facilities for those attending Ashur Khanas to pay their condolences, including arranging mini buses and setting up medical camps and ambulances.

Several notable attendees were present at the meeting, including MLCs Mirza Riaz ul Hasan Effendi, Mirza Rahmat Baig, Balmuri Venkat, MLAs Zafar Hussain Meraj, Kausar Mohiuddin, Mir Zulfekar Ali, Minority Welfare Department Secretary Tafseer Iqbal, Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, Minority Finance Corporation Chairman Kotwal, Vice Chairman & President TMREIS Faheem Qureshi, Hyderabad City Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi, GHMC Commissioner Amrapali, and Hyderabad Police Commissioner Srinivas Reddy.

The government’s comprehensive planning aims to ensure a respectful and organized observance of Moharram, accommodating the needs of all participants and maintaining public order and safety.
