New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, lauding his leadership and pivotal role in shaping India’s economic reforms. Rao, born in 1921, served as Prime Minister following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, leading the nation through a transformative period marked by significant policy changes.

In a tribute shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Narender Modi remarked, “He is remembered for his leadership and wisdom. It is our Government’s honour that we conferred the Bharat Ratna on him earlier this year, recognising his rich contribution to our nation.”

 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage to the former Prime Minister, emphasizing Rao’s pivotal role in shaping India’s economic landscape. In his tribute on X, Kharge highlighted, “Our tribute to former Prime Minister, PV Narasimha Rao on his birth anniversary,” underscoring Rao’s leadership in initiating economic liberalization that spurred growth, expanded the middle class, and strengthened the nation’s resilience.

 

Kharge further reflected on Rao’s tenure, noting significant milestones in India’s nuclear program and innovative foreign policy initiatives, including the ‘Look East’ policy. He concluded, “His vital role in the progress of our nation shall always be cherished.”
