State Task Force Seizes 767 Quintals of PDS Rice Worth 20 Lakhs in Interception Operation

Hyderabad : On March 21, 2024, acting on credible information, the State Task Force Team for Civil Supplies, in collaboration with the Revenue Inspector of Mahadevpur and the DCSO of Bhupalapally, carried out an interception operation at Kaleshwaram village. The team intercepted four vehicles: TS 22 TA 2112 (pickup truck), TS 24 PTR 3869 (pickup truck), CG 08 AU 9100 (16-tyre lorry), and CG 08 AU 9700 (16-tyre lorry). Upon inspection, they discovered PDS rice being unlawfully transported to Sironcha village in Maharashtra State, adjacent to the Bhupalapally district, without valid documentation.

Consequently, the officials seized approximately 767 quintals of PDS rice valued at around 20 lakhs. They initiated legal action under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and filed a criminal case at Kaleshwaram police station against the individuals involved in the clandestine business of purchasing, recycling, and selling PDS rice. The respondents include Y. Veeran Kumar from Sironcha (involved in purchasing, recycling, and selling), along with drivers P. Sridhar, B. Raghuram, Ranjeet Mahaldar, and Anil Kumar Sahoo.

Preliminary investigations suggest that this recycled rice was intended to be supplied to Civil Supplies Godowns in exchange for old Yasangi Paddy
