State Government to Empower Women with New Canteen Services Initiative

Hyderabad : As per the directions of the Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari held a review meeting today at the Secretariat on the “Mahila Shakti – Canteen Services” to be set up across the State. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed the PR & RD Commissioner to prepare a detailed action plan regarding the functioning and management of the canteens, including the space required for their establishment. Chief Minister aims to empower women’s organizations in the state by establishing special canteens in government offices, district collectorates, tourist places, temples, bus stands, and industrial areas, with the assistance of these organizations.

The initiative takes inspiration from the successful performance of canteens in Kerala and the “Didi Ka Rasoi” project in West Bengal, with an ambitious target of setting up at least 150 canteens in the next two years. These canteens will be managed by rural women’s groups, who will receive special training in canteen management. The meeting was attended by Revenue Principal Secretary Naveen Mittal, Panchayat Raj Commissioner Anita Ramachandran, Health Department Commissioner Karnan, Endowment Commissioner Hanumantha Rao, Tourism Director Nikhila, Tourism Corporation MD Ramesh Naidu, and other officials.
