Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park Prepares for 60th Anniversary Celebration

Hyderabad(Aug, 25) : Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad is getting ready to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years, in October 2023. The preparations for this milestone event have been in full swing, with significant developmental projects prioritized based on the approved Action Plan Order. These projects aim to enhance the experience for both visitors and animals. Measures such as increasing family sitting areas, bolstering security with strategically positioned CCTV cameras, and other safety enhancements have been implemented to ensure that the zoo feels like a secure and welcoming space for visitors. The park’s facilities have also been improved, including the addition of better toilets, an upgraded RO plant, and the beautification of lawns and gardens. Plantation initiatives have been undertaken along nalas (drainage channels) for environmental conservation. Animal enclosures have been enriched to meet the needs of the animals and improve their well-being.

Furthermore, efforts have been directed towards the maintenance of existing nalas and ponds, including desilting, cleaning, and stabilization measures. A new culvert with 18 pipes of 1-meter height has been constructed at the safari park complex to prevent flooding from the Mir Alam Tank during heavy rains, ensuring the safety of both the animals and visitors.

Exciting additions are on the horizon, such as an environmental library, water ponds, flamingo ponds, and more, which will offer fresh experiences for visitors in the upcoming years. The Minister for the Environment, Forest, and Science & Technology Department of Telangana State has outlined a clear vision to elevate the zoo to a world-class standard. The implementation of these plans is being carried out under the guidance of higher forest officials, aligning with the vision to create a zoo that stands out on the global stage.
