Hyderabad : On June 3, 2024, in a bold move against the denial of crucial election documents, a contested candidate Dr Lubna Sarwath announced a hunger strike and Satyagraha from dawn to dusk at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park, Hyderabad. Despite repeated requests through various channels like WhatsApp, calls, emails, and social media, the candidate has been deprived of essential documents, including Form 17C Part I, Annexure I and II, booth-wise polling data, and lists of Absentee, Shifted, Deceased voters. With the counting day fast approaching on June 4, the absence of these documents poses a significant threat to the democratic process.
The candidate’s frustration is evident, especially with the deletion of pages from the documents shared via official WhatsApp groups and the failure to obtain the complete information even after multiple requests to the District Election Officer and Returning Officer. In light of this suppression of information, the candidate has chosen to undertake a hunger strike until the requested documents are provided.
