Double Engine Governments Falling Short in Telangana Progress : Sofia Haseeb Siddiqui

Hyderabad : In recent times, there has been a sentiment among some individuals in Telangana that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to the state are often perceived as attempts to sway voters rather than genuine interest in the region. Critics argue that these visits aim to divert attention from the notable accomplishments of Telangana’s Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao, and his son, K.T. Rama Rao, within a relatively short span of eight years. They emphasize that the combined efforts of the state and central government, often referred to as “double engine governments,” have not matched the progress seen in Telangana. Supporters of the Telangana leadership laud their educated and dedicated approach, claiming a focus on the well-being of the people across various sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. They cite positive assessments from the Reserve Bank of India and international agencies as evidence of Telangana’s effective governance.

On the other hand, critics of Prime Minister Modi argue that during his tenure, they have observed a lack of substantial achievements and progress at the national level. They believe his administration prioritizes media manipulation over addressing pressing issues, contributing to communal tensions and rising crime rates, while poverty continues to be a pervasive concern. This division in perspective is evident in the political discourse, with each side staunchly defending their viewpoint. – Sofia Haseeb Siddiqui, BRS Mahila President
