Hyderabad(Sep, 29) : “The city’s annual Ganesh Idols procession and the final immersion concluded successfully on Friday, with the collaborative efforts of the organizers, the public, and the city police, and we thank all stakeholders,” said City Police Commissioner CV Anand during a media briefing at Rotary Junction.
The enthusiastic buzz of idol immersion began in the early hours, not only at Hussain Sagar but also at other lakes and ponds, drawing participation from lakhs of devotees. CV Anand highlighted a historic moment: “First time in history, the 65 feet Khairatabad Ganesh began its journey around 6:30 am and was immersed early at 1:30 pm,” commending the efforts of the Central Zone DCP and his team.
He extended special thanks to Muslim clerics and the community for postponing the Milad Julus to October 1st. CP Anand reported that an impressive 10,200 idols, each measuring 3 feet and above, were immersed during the event, with the total number ranging from 50,000 to 60,000.
Some pandal organizers started their processions later than planned, leading to an extended event duration. Zonal DCPs, after conducting an aerial survey, engaged with pandal organizers to encourage prompt starts.
This year saw a remarkable surge in new idols, with a 10-15 percent increase compared to previous years, accompanied by heightened grandeur and enthusiasm. The city’s top brass praised the dedicated efforts of all ranks of the city police, who worked tirelessly for over 40 hours. They particularly acknowledged the SHE teams for apprehending 255 individuals involved in harassing women at various crowded spots. Taskforce teams and crime units maintained vigilance throughout the event to ensure the safety and security of the devotees.
CV Anand expressed hope that in the coming years, organizers would prioritize starting the procession at its earliest scheduled time. All roads are now open to general traffic.
