Hyderabad(Sep, 16) : Today, 150 personnel from the Telangana State Police CID wing received invaluable training in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) during a one-day hands-on session conducted by KIM’s Hospital in Secunderabad. The intensive 4-hour program took place within the hospital’s premises and saw the esteemed presence of CID Chief Mahesh M Bhagwat, IPS, and KIMS Hospital’s MD, Dr. Bhaskar Rao, who served as Chief Guests.
In his opening remarks, CID Chief Mahesh M Bhagwat emphasized the profound impact of one person saving another’s life, underscoring the growing prevalence of Sudden Cardiac Arrests, often attributed to lifestyle changes. He acknowledged that even young, physically fit individuals such as athletes and medical professionals are not immune to such events. Drawing a parallel between a police officer’s life and firefighting, he identified “Hurry, Worry, Curry” as the three primary sources of stress in their profession, leading to a higher risk of cardiac disease. Stressing the importance of a healthy lifestyle as a preventive measure, he highlighted that the immediate response of a bystander trained in CPR is pivotal in saving a victim’s life. CID Chief Bhagwat commended KIMS Hospital’s MD, Dr. Bhaskar Rao, for taking the initiative to organize this program and praised the hospital’s ECMO and Organ Transplant services, citing a successful example of a civil service aspirant who underwent 100 days of ECMO treatment at KIMS Hospital during COVID-19 and has now recovered, preparing for Civil Services exams.
CID Chief Bhagwat stressed the significance of CPR training for emergency response forces like the police, enabling them to respond effectively during crises and save lives. He expressed gratitude to the management of KIMS for arranging the one-day CPR training program and urged CID personnel to maximize the benefits of this training.
Dr. Bhaskar Rao, MD of KIMS Hospital and Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon, acknowledged the round-the-clock services of the Police Department. He emphasized that the immediate response of a bystander during a cardiac arrest is crucial, as it can significantly reduce response time and save lives.
Dr. Hyagriv Rao, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, Electro Physiologist, and Program Designer, reiterated the critical importance of the first 10 minutes following a sudden cardiac arrest. Performing CPR during this crucial window can be a life-saving intervention. He also shared their mission, “Har Ghar Se Ek,” aimed at training at least one person in every household in CPR, multiplying the number of lives that can be saved from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
