Chief Wildlife Warden Visits Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, to Inspect Animal Health and Wildlife Conservation Efforts

Hyderabad(July, 22) : Today Lokesh Jayaswal, IFS., Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Telangana, paid a visit to the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. He was warmly welcomed by Vinay Kumar, IFS., Director of Zoo Parks, Telangana, and Prashant Bajirao Patil, IFS., Curator of Nehru Zoological Park. Together, they conducted a comprehensive field inspection, focusing on the health and maintenance of the park’s wild animals. During the inspection, the Chief Wildlife Warden also looked into an unfortunate incident where seven sandalwood trees (0.30 cmt) were illegally felled within the Thamin Deer enclosure on the early morning of 20.07.2023.

Expressing concern over the incident, the Prl. Chief Conservator of Forests instructed the authorities to book a case against the culprits responsible for the illicit felling and submit a detailed report on the matter. Fortunately, all the missing wood material was recovered outside the zoo vicinity on the same day, thanks to the efforts of the executive staff.

To prevent such incidents from occurring in the future, the PCCF (WL) requested a thorough inquiry to identify and take legal action against the responsible individuals. Additionally, discussions took place about strengthening protection measures within the zoo, including the installation of electrical fencing along the zoo’s boundary and the deployment of CCTV cameras at vital locations. The Director of Zoo Park and Curator were asked to submit a detailed report on these proposals within a week.

During his visit, Lokesh Jayaswal expressed satisfaction and happiness with the overall condition of the park. He commended the Zoo Curator and the staff for their diligent efforts in wildlife conservation and breeding, as well as for resolving issues like flooding in the zoo premises. The visit concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the commitment of the Telangana state authorities towards the welfare of its wildlife and the enhancement of zoo facilities for both animals and visitors.
