Two Women Arrested for Trafficking Drugs Worth Rs. 50.85 Lakh on Warangal-Bound Train
Warangal : During the MCC period of the Parliamentary Election in 2024, a significant enforcement operation was conducted by the Railway Police GRP/RPF Warangal team, resulting in the seizure of 203.400 kilograms of Ganja being transported aboard the Navajeevan Express from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to Jalgaon, Maharashtra, with an estimated value of Rs. 50.85 lakh. Two women, identified as Chandabai Bhima Beldar and Usha Dilip Chavan, both hailing from Maharashtra, were apprehended as the traffickers.
On April 4, 2024, during routine frisking and checking on the train, personnel from GRP/RPF Warangal discovered the contraband concealed in ten HDPE plastic bags under the seats of a general coach. The women confessed that they were lured into the smuggling operation by an individual named Ramnath, promising them a payment of Rs. 10,000 each for transporting the Ganja from Vijayawada to Jalgaon.
They were given general train tickets and instructed to place the bags on the Navajeevan Express, where they would be collected by another person upon arrival. However, their plans were foiled when police personnel boarded the train for inspection, prompting their apprehension at Warangal Railway Station. The accused, along with the seized Ganja, were handed over to the authorities for further legal action.
The successful operation was commended by senior officials including T. Krupakar, DSRP Kazipet, and Mahesh Bhagwat, ADG Railway, with recognition and rewards promised to the diligent officers and staff involved in the operation.
