Hyderabad(July 29) : Amid a somber atmosphere of mourning, the traditional “Bibi Ki Alam” procession, observed on the 10th day of Moharram, unfolded peacefully in the historic old city of Hyderabad. The Hyderabad City Police ensured tight security cover and meticulously planned traffic arrangements throughout the Moharram observance.
The grand procession commenced from “Bibi Ka Alawa” in Dabeerpura, with the revered “alam” placed atop a beautifully adorned elephant. Along the route, hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects, while thousands of mourners actively participated in the event.
A significant moment during the procession occurred at the iconic Charminar, where City Police Commissioner, CV Anand, and Additional Commissioners Vikram Singh Mann, Sudheer Babu, and Vishwaprasad offered “Dhatti” to the revered Bibi Ka Alam atop the elephant named Madhuri. This age-old tradition holds the city police Kotwal responsible for welcoming the procession and humbly expressing his reverence.
Throughout its journey, which included passing through areas like Bada Bazaar and Nayapol, the procession finally reached Masjid-E-Ilahi, Chaderghat, situated on the banks of the Musi river. Ensuring smooth operations, Commissioner CV Anand, accompanied by senior officials from law and order and traffic departments, diligently monitored the procession, issuing timely instructions to the field officers. He expressed appreciation for the general public and organizers for their cooperation during the event.
To safeguard the mourners and maintain peace, more than 1000 police personnel were deployed to oversee the mourning procession, providing a safe environment for all. The presence of additional dignitaries, including IPS officers Vikram Singh Mann, G. Sudheer Babu, P. Vishwa Prasad, and DCP P. Sai Chaitanya, further reinforced the authorities’ commitment to ensure a smooth and respectful observance of the tradition.
