Hyderabad(Feb, 15) : In the past month, the Government Railway Police Telangana’s special teams have made significant strides in combating mobile phone theft, utilizing the Central Equipment Identify Register (CEIR) portal established by the Department of Telecommunications. With diligent efforts, they’ve managed to recover a staggering 150 stolen or lost mobile phones, amounting to a total value of Rs. 10 Lakhs. These recovered devices have been promptly returned to their rightful owners, thanks to the meticulous work of the dedicated teams.
This initiative aligns with the recent inauguration of the CEIR portal in Telangana on April 19th, 2023, marking a pivotal step in the state’s efforts to address mobile phone theft. Under the guidance of ADG Railway Mahesh Bhagwat IPS, former State nodal officer of the CEIR portal, specialized teams have been deployed across Railway Police districts, supervised by officers such as DSRP Rural Y. Narsimha Reddy and DSRP Kazipet K. Srinivas Rao.
Notably, the teams have not only recovered mobile phones within Telangana but also from various other states, including Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. The recovered devices primarily belonged to passengers who either lost their belongings during their journey or fell victim to theft. Railway passengers are urged to remain vigilant and report any incidents promptly. Immediate action, such as blocking IMEI numbers through the CEIR portal, is crucial in mitigating further losses. ADGP Railway Police Telangana Mahesh Bhagwat IPS, along with SP SRP Secunderabad Shaik Saleema IPS, has commended the exceptional efforts of the special teams, rewarding them accordingly for their remarkable achievement of recovering 150 phones in just one month.
