Hyderabad : The Telangana government has enforced the compulsory teaching of Telugu in all schools, including CBSE, ICSE, and IB institutions, under the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act, 2018. Implemented in phases, Telugu was introduced in Classes 1 and 6 in 2018-19 and fully integrated across Classes 1 to 10 by 2022-23. Schools must adopt Telugu as a second language, with SCERT providing separate textbooks for native and non-native speakers. The initiative aims to preserve and promote Telugu language and culture among students statewide.
