Hyderabad :Â The Telangana State Legislative Assembly Elections of 2023 have seen remarkable enforcement efforts by the Telangana Police in just eight days since the initiation of the Model Code of Conduct on October 9, 2023. To ensure fair and transparent elections across the state’s 119 Assembly Constituencies scheduled for November 30, 2023, the Election Commission of India’s guidelines have been rigorously followed.
Telangana Police established (373) Flying Squads (FS), (374) Static Surveillance Teams (SST), and (95) State Internal Border Check posts, in addition to local police mobile teams, all dedicated to curbing illegal transportation of money, liquor, precious metals, and other illegal items.
During these eight days of continuous enforcement, impressive seizures have been made, which include:
- Total Cash Seized: Rs. 55,99,26,994/-
- Total Liquor Seized Worth Rs. 2,60,57,004/-
- Total Ganja Seized Worth Rs. 3,42,84,275/-, with a quantity of 1234 kgs of Ganja, 0.3 liters of Weed Oil, and 0.13 MDMA.
- Total Precious Metals Seized: Gold – 72.06 kgs, Silver – 429.1 kgs, Diamond – 42.25 carat, Worth Rs. 38,45,44,526/-
- Other Freebies Seized Worth Rs. 70,04,500/-
- Total Seizure Worth (Cash, Liquor, Precious metals, Drugs & Freebies): Rs. 101,18,17,299/-
- Licensed Arms Deposited: 5529
- Un-Licensed Arms Seized: 3
- Explosives Seized: Gelatin Sticks – 18, Detonators – 5, Cordtex wire bundles – 6
- Total Bind over Cases: 5252, involving 17128 individuals.
- Total NBWs (Non-Bailable Warrants) Received: 639, out of which 631 were executed, and 436 were recalled, leaving 5308 pending.
- Total MCC (Model Code of Conduct) Violations: 56, with 184 respondents/accused involved.
- No reported political-related violence, except for one SC/ST Atrocity case resulting in two injuries.
- A total of 2339 Nakas (checkpoints) were operated, with property damage amounting to Rs. 1,000/–
These seizures, including cash, precious metals, liquor, and more, have already exceeded Rs. 101 Crores during this brief eight-day period. In comparison, during the Assembly elections of 2018, approximately 103 Crores were seized over the entire period of the Model Code of Conduct. This significant flow of illegal items underscores the importance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India, ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of the elections for all political parties and stakeholders involved
