Rahul Gandhi gets two years imprisonment in defamation case filed in Surat, granted bail

The Surat court gave its verdict in the case of remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in 2019 regarding the Modi surname on Thursday. The court has convicted Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years under section 504.

(23March )Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has suffered a major setback in the ‘Modi surname’ comment case. The court of Surat has sentenced him to two years. However, the court suspended the sentence for thirty days. Along with this, bail has been granted to Rahul Gandhi. On the verdict, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that he knew this was going to happen.

At a rally in Kolar, Karnataka for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had said, how come all thieves have Modi as their surname? Regarding this, BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that Rahul had defamed the entire Modi community with his remarks. A case was registered against Rahul under IPC sections 499 and 500 (defamation).
