Minister KTR Emphasizes Public Safety Amidst Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Hyderabad(July, 19) : Amidst the looming threat of heavy rainfall in Hyderabad over the next few days, K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), took decisive action to ensure public safety and minimize the impact of potential floods. During a review meeting at the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) office, the Minister urged senior officials from the Municipal Administration department to collaborate seamlessly with other relevant departments, including Electricity, Revenue, Police (Traffic), and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). The primary focus of their efforts should be to prevent any loss of life.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials reported to the Minister that they had already implemented various measures as part of their monsoon preparedness plan. Dewatering pumps were strategically placed in low-lying areas and arterial roads, areas prone to flooding. Furthermore, the strengthening of nalas under the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) was expected to effectively tackle flood-related issues in vulnerable areas during this year’s monsoons.

Another critical aspect discussed in the meeting was the sanitation management of Hyderabad city. Minister KTR emphasized the need for proactive measures and cautioned against complacency despite the positive results achieved in recent years. The city’s rapid expansion and increasing population had led to a rise in garbage generation, demanding a more robust and comprehensive sanitation management plan going forward. The officials presented their immediate and short-term plans to address sanitation issues, and the MA&UD Minister underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing and focusing on sanitation management.

In attendance at the meeting were key figures such as Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of MA&UD, D. Ronald Rose, Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Deputy Commissioners from the Municipal Corporation, and other relevant officials. With these proactive steps and a well-coordinated approach, the city is better equipped to face the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall and safeguard the welfare of its residents.
