Hyderabad(Sep, 30) : In a significant operation, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Maheshwaram Zone, in collaboration with the Meerpet Police under Rachakonda Commissionerate, has successfully dismantled an interstate drug trafficking network. This operation resulted in the arrest of two drug peddlers and the seizure of a substantial 250 kilograms of Ganja, along with a goods carrier vehicle and multiple mobile phones, all with an estimated value of Rs. 75 lakhs. The case has been registered under Cr. No. 1394/2023 U/s 8 (c) r/w 20 (b) (II) (C) of the NDPS Act at the Meerpet Police Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Malayli Swamy, also known as Shiva, and Raamar, both residents of Hyderabad, with origins traced back to Tamil Nadu. Their involvement in the drug trade came as a desperate attempt to overcome financial hardships. The duo transported the contraband concealed beneath coconut coir from Odisha to Hyderabad. Their operations were orchestrated by a larger network, involving individuals like Rajesh from Kerala, who is responsible for selling the Ganja to various agents across different regions.
The police were alerted to their activities and successfully intercepted the suspects’ Ashok Leyland vehicle (Registration No. TN-09-AP-3217) at TKR Kaman X Road on the evening of September 29, 2023. The seizure was made under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, D S Chauhan, IPS, and the guidance of K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT, LB Nagar-Maheshwaram. The arrested individuals will face legal proceedings and judicial remand.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by Rachakonda police to crack down on drug peddling and consumption. During the current year, numerous consumers have been arrested, with a recent surge of 17 arrests made in the current month alone.
