GRP and RPF Staff Apprehend Woman Transporting Drugs from Odisha to Maharashtra
Hyderabad(Jan, 18) :Â Secunderabad Railway Station GRP and RPF Staff successfully seized 46 kilograms of Ganja, valued at Rs.11,50,000/-, from a woman identified as Silpa Naik. The operation unfolded on 17.01.2024 at approximately 14:00 hrs, when D. Ramesh, SI of Police, Secunderabad, along with other officials, conducted a routine check on Platform No.06. Silpa Naik, a 27-year-old housewife hailing from Mohana Village in Gajapati District, Odisha, was found in possession of four bags containing 23 packets of dry ganja, each weighing about 2 kilograms.
Upon interrogation, Silpa Naik revealed that she was driven to this illicit activity due to financial struggles within her family. Her husband had passed away in 2018, leaving her with a 6-year-old son to care for. In an attempt to support her elderly parents financially, she was influenced by a person named Rajeev Naik to transport ganja from Mohana forest area to Mumbai. Silpa Naik, along with Rajeev Naik, purchased 46 kilograms of ganja from an unidentified source in Mohana forest area and boarded the Falaknuma Express train from Palasa Railway station. The arrest occurred as they de-boarded at Secunderabad Railway Station.
The accused Silpa Naik and an absconding individual, Rajeev Kumar, are now facing charges under Cr.No. 36/2024 U/sec 20(b)(ii)(C) r/w 8(c) of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The confiscated ganja, with an estimated value of Rs.11,50,000/-, was packed in four bags, each containing 23 packets.
This successful operation was carried out under the instructions of Mahesh M Bhagwat IPS, ADGP of Railways & Road Safety, Telangana State, and the supervision of Shaik Saleema IPS, Superintendent of Railway Police Secunderabad. The coordinated efforts of the GRP Secunderabad, under the leadership of A. Narsaiah, DSRP Sec’bad Urban, and the involvement of RPF staff, led to the apprehension of the accused. The commendable work of the officers and staff of GRP Secunderabad will be suitably rewarded.
