KTR Condemns Installation of Rajiv Gandhi Statue, Calls for Statewide Protest

Hyderabad : Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao , Working President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), voiced strong disapproval over the Congress government’s decision to install a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in place of the Telangana Talli (Mother of Telangana) statue, intended for a prominent spot between the State Secretariat and Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial. KTR condemned the move as a disgraceful act, accusing the Congress of undermining Telangana’s identity.

In protest, KTR has called upon BRS cadres and Telangana supporters to conduct palabhishekam (a symbolic milk-bathing ritual) for Telangana Talli statues across the state on Tuesday, 17th September 2024. He urged citizens to express their dissent, arguing that the installation of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in this specific location disrespects the state’s cultural symbol. KTR further advised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to rectify the decision, warning that the people of Telangana would hold him accountable.

KTR clarified that while BRS does not oppose Rajiv Gandhi’s statue, they reject its placement in an area designated for Telangana Talli. He stated that once BRS returns to power, they will relocate the statue to Gandhi Bhavan with full honors, while restoring the Telangana Talli statue to its rightful place. He also criticized the Congress for compromising Telangana’s self-respect, accusing Revanth Reddy of prioritizing Delhi over Telangana’s sentiments.

KTR reaffirmed that BRS is committed to fighting for Telangana’s identity and interests, positioning the party as the true protector of the state’s dignity and welfare.
