Hyderabad: On the evening of October 13, 2023, at approximately 20:30 hours, a tragic incident occurred at Brindavan Girls Hostel in Ashoknagar, Chikkadpally, Hyderabad. Kumari Marri Pravallika, a 23-year-old from Durgundi, Warangal District, who had recently taken up residence at the hostel just 15 days prior, took her own life by hanging herself in her hostel room. This heart-wrenching event prompted a gathering of students who were preparing for competitive exams in front of the hostel. They began raising grievances against the government, leading to a significant increase in the crowd size. The situation took a distressing turn when political leaders from both the Congress and BJP parties joined the gathering, using their speeches to manipulate facts and spread false rumors, further inflaming the situation.
Despite police efforts to engage and persuade the protestors, they refused to allow the police to shift Pravallika’s body for a post-mortem examination. In the early hours of October 14, 2023, around 01:00 hours, the situation turned violent as the mob began pelting stones at the police, resulting in injuries to KVR Satyanarayana, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and Tharun, the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police at the Saifabad Police Station. After a considerable struggle, the police managed to disperse the crowd and safely transferred Pravallika’s body to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. Subsequently, a case was registered under Cr No 291/2023 U/s 174 Cr PC (Suspicious Death), and after the completion of the post-mortem examination, the deceased’s body was returned to her bereaved parents.
Further investigation revealed that Pravallika had been in a romantic relationship with a man named Shivaram, who had initially promised to marry her but later became engaged to another woman. The WhatsApp chat messages exchanged between Pravallika and her friends prior to her tragic death shed light on the reasons behind her suicide. However, the situation took an unfortunate turn as political leaders distorted the facts in their speeches, leading to roadblocks and public disruption.
In response to this case, the police have seized the suicide note and the cell phone of the late Marri Pravalika through a scene of crime panchanama. These items are currently undergoing examination, with the suicide note and handwriting samples being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. Additionally, the WhatsApp chat messages, close photos, and CCTV footage pertaining to Marri Pravalika and Shivaram Rathod of Kosgi, Old Mahaboobnagar District, are under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation. The private chats between the deceased and Shivaram Rathod offer critical insights into the circumstances surrounding her tragic decision.
