Hyderabad(Dec, 3) : In a significant electoral turnaround, the Congress party emerged victorious in Telangana, securing 64 assembly seats and bringing an end to the nearly decade-long rule of the KCR-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) government. The state unit chief of Congress, Revanth Reddy, along with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, met with the governor in the evening to formally stake their claim to form the government.
The BRS, which held a dominant position with 101 members in the outgoing Assembly, experienced a notable decline, securing 39 seats in this election. The BJP secured eight seats, AIMIM won seven, and CPI clinched one seat. In the outgoing Telangana assembly, with a total strength of 119, the BRS held a majority with 101 members, while AIMIM, Congress, and BJP had 7, 5, and 3 members, respectively.
