Hyderabad(July, 24) :Â On Monday, a delegation of Congress leaders, led by Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sameer Waliullah, paid a visit to Bibi Ka Alawa in Dabirpura, Old City of Hyderabad. As a part of the 400-year-old tradition in Hyderabad, the delegation presented traditional ‘dhatti’ and ‘nazrana’ to the Bibi Ka Alam, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and his followers in Karbala. The Congress leaders prayed for the well-being of humanity during this solemn occasion.
During the visit, Sameer Waliullah strongly criticized the Telangana government for its delay in releasing funds for Ashur Khanas and other arrangements for the ‘Moharram Juloos’. He accused Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao of neglecting the Old City and the minority community by not fulfilling promises made during his rare visit to Bibi Ka Alam. Sameer Waliullah emphasized that the observance of Moharram mourning in Hyderabad holds historical significance and symbolizes communal harmony, with both Shia and non-Shia Muslims, as well as people from other religious backgrounds, taking part in the processions.
The Congress leader demanded elaborate arrangements for the upcoming Yaum-e-Ashura and procession on the 10th of Moharram, falling on July 29. He asserted that preserving and respecting this centuries-old tradition is the duty of all citizens and pledged that the Congress party, poised to return to power in the next Assembly election, would work to restore the significance of Moharram mourning in Hyderabad.
