Center refused to approve the extension of the Metro from Lakdikapul to BHEL and Nagole to LB Nagar on the basis of feasibility
Taking strong objection to the decision of the BJP-led central government after rejecting the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II proposal, Minister KT Rama Rao wrote to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to reconsider the decision of the Center .
Reacting to media reports that the Center refused to approve the extension of the Metro from Lakdikapul to BHEL and Nagole to LB Nagar on the basis of feasibility, Minister KTR said it was strange that the Government of India had taken up several low-cost metros. Metro projects were approved in the cities. TRAFFIC felt that Hyderabad was not eligible for the Metro Rail project.
Responding to the Telangana government’s letter to extend financial assistance to the Hyderabad Metro phase- II project, the Union ministry said, “The PHPDT (Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic) and ridership is very less and does not justify Metro Rail project at this juncture”.
The minister KTR said that this is nothing but blatant discrimination against Telangana. “If the traffic of the High Density Corridor of Hyderabad is not eligible for the metro rail project, I wonder why many small cities of UP like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, Prayag Raj, Meerut and some of their favorite cities located in other states How do you qualify? This is nothing but pure discrimination and step-motherly treatment with Hyderabad and Telangana,”
