15,000+ Phones Recovered: Telangana Sets Record in Mobile Security
Hyderabad(Dec, 16) : In the realm of mobile phone security and recovery, Telangana has emerged as a frontrunner in the country. The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, devised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), was introduced nationwide on May 17, 2023, following a successful pilot launch in Telangana from April 19, 2023.
Notably, the CEIR portal, aimed at combatting mobile theft and counterfeit devices, has proven to be a game-changer for the citizens of Telangana. Under the guidance of DGP & ADGP, CID, Telangana State, a comprehensive training program was initiated, equipping 780 police stations with the necessary tools to utilize the CEIR portal effectively.

Spearheaded by Nodal Officer Mahesh M. Bhagwat, IPS, Addl. DGP, CID, Telangana State, the CEIR portal operates across all police stations, resulting in the recovery of an impressive 15,024 lost or stolen mobile devices within 239 days. Telangana achieved the top spot in the country with a remarkable recovery percentage of 33.71%, surpassing other states.
The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, exemplified by Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda Commissionerates, and others, played a pivotal role in this success. Furthermore, the integration of the CEIR portal with the TS Police Citizen Portal enhances user accessibility, urging citizens to report lost or missing mobile devices online, streamlining the process and reducing the need for physical visits to police stations or Mee Seva centers.
