APJ Abdul Kalam’s Death Anniversary: India Remembers Missile Man

Today, July 27, 2023, marks the 8th death anniversary of APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th president of India and a renowned scientist. He was popularly known as the “Missile Man of India” for his contributions to the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology. Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, in 1931 and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in 1958 and worked on a number of missile development projects, including the Prithvi, Agni, and Trishul missiles. In 1998, he played a key role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests.

Kalam was elected president of India in 2002 and served a five-year term. During his presidency, he focused on promoting science and technology education, and he also worked to improve relations between India and Pakistan. He was a popular and respected figure in India, and his death in 2015 was mourned by millions of people.
