AIMIM and BJP Clash Over Religious Quotas in Women’s Reservation Bill

Hyderabad(Sep, 19) : A constant tussle persists between the government and opposition leaders regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced his concerns, stating, “Who are you giving representation? Those who are not represented should be given representation. The major flaw in this bill is that there is no quota for Muslim women, and that is why we are against it.”

In response, the Telangana BJP has criticized AIMIM for Owaisi’s statement, asserting that Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi should recognize that the Women’s Reservation Bill proposed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government aims to provide representation to Indian women regardless of their caste and religion, without any reservations.

Telangana BJP spokesperson NV Subhash alleged that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s demand for separate reservation for Muslim women was an attempt to sow division along religious lines, potentially driving a wedge between Hindu and Muslim women.

The Modi government is taking a significant step by fulfilling the long-standing demand for 33 percent reservation for women, even though the Congress party, which held power in the country for decades, failed to pass such a law in Parliament. Subhash, a BJP leader, called on Owaisi to cease politicizing the bill and instead focus on efforts to uplift Indian women across the country.
