Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan Approves MLC Nominations

Hyderabad(Jan, 25) : Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, on Thursday, approved the nomination of Professor Kodandaram, the president of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), and Aamer Ali Khan, the editor of Siasat, as members of the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota. These nominations were recommended by the Congress, which had received support from TJS during the assembly elections. TJS, in a reciprocal agreement, withdrew from contesting the elections, and the Congress assured suitable posts to TJS leaders.

Aamer Ali Khan is a Post Graduate in Business Administration who studied Journalism and Communication at Osmania University. Currently serving as the news editor of Siasat Urdu daily, Khan had reportedly openly campaigned for Congress during the elections.

Senior BRS leader Shravan Dasoju raised questions regarding these nominations. He questioned the basis of the false campaign asserting that two MLCs were appointed by the Governor despite the absence of an official order. Dasoju also questioned the attempt to undermine the ethical decision of the Governor, who refrained from filling the MLC positions due to an ongoing legal matter in the High Court of Telangana.

In response to the campaign, Dasoju sought clarity on various aspects, including the date and resolution of the cabinet meeting, the factors considered in the nominations, the timeline of the file submission, and the swift clearance by the Governor without cross verification. Additionally, he questioned the deviation from the Governor’s earlier stance of not filling the posts until the High Court ruling and the acceptance of Congress’s recommendations despite objections raised in the past.

The situation raises concerns about the nexus between the Governor’s decisions and political considerations, prompting a need for transparency and accountability in the nomination process.
