Election Commission Shuffles Key Police and Administrative Roles in Telangana

Hyderabad : The Election Commission has taken a significant step by issuing orders for the transfer of 13 SPs and police commissioners within the state of Telangana. This directive notably includes the transfer of nine non-cadre police officers, reflecting a comprehensive restructuring of key law enforcement positions in the state.

The changes extend to the highest levels of policing, with Commissioners of Police in Hyderabad, Warangal, and Nizamabad being among those transferred. Furthermore, based on performance assessments and relevant feedback, the Election Commission has ordered the transfer of four District Election Officers (DEOs) in Telangana, encompassing Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, and Nirmal districts.

Sources have indicated that the transfers were prompted by a surge in complaints regarding the alleged misuse of monetary resources during the recent by-election for the Munugode assembly seat in Telangana.

In addition to the changes in the police department, the commission has also mandated the removal of the transport secretary, director of prohibition and excise, and the commissioner of commercial tax in Telangana. To ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of election-related activities, the Telangana government has been directed to appoint a dedicated principal secretary for the Excise and Commercial Tax Department, a role previously held by the chief secretary. This decision reflects the heightened demands placed on these departments during election periods.
