Andhra Pradesh(July, 19) : A delegation of Muslim religious leaders recently held a significant meeting with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The primary focus of the meeting was to seek the Chief Minister’s support in opposing the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. The Uniform Civil Code is a proposed legal framework aimed at replacing personal laws based on religious beliefs with a single, uniform set of civil laws applicable to all citizens of India, regardless of their religious background.
During the meeting, the Muslim religious heads shared their concerns and perspectives on the matter, expressing their reservations about the potential impact of the Uniform Civil Code on religious practices and personal laws pertaining to the Muslim community. The delegation sought reassurance that their unique cultural and religious identities would be safeguarded, and that their community’s customs and traditions would be respected and protected under any proposed legal reforms.
Chief Minister YS Jagan attentively listened to the delegation’s views and assured them that their apprehensions and interests would be taken into consideration during any discussions or decisions concerning the Uniform Civil Code.
