New Delhi(June, 23) : In a significant development, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister K.T. Rama Rao held a meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on Friday. The purpose of the meeting was to present representations and reiterate appeals for the expedited transfer of defence lands for various road development projects in and around Hyderabad. These projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion on the city’s arterial roads.
During the meeting, Minister KTR highlighted the need for the defence lands for several key road projects. These projects include the development of a Skywalk at Mehdipatnam, the construction of an elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari (SH01), the establishment of an elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Junction near Kandlakoya on NH-44, the construction of link roads under the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) project, and certain road widening works.
One of the major projects discussed was the construction and development of a Skywalk at Rythubazar in Mehdipatnam. Minister KTR highlighted that approximately 0.20 hectares or 0.51 acres of defence land is required to proceed with this initiative. The Skywalk is part of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority’s (HMDA) road network and pedestrian movement improvement project.
Another significant project discussed was the proposed development of an elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to ORR Junction on Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Ramagundam (HKR) Road (SH-01) (Rajeev Rahadari). This corridor would pass through important locations such as West Marredpally, Kharkhana, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet, Thumkunta, and culminate at the junction with the ORR at Shamirpet. The proposed length of this corridor is 18.400 kilometers, with exit and entry ramps planned at Trimulgherry Junction (two ramps) and Alwal.
Additionally, Minister KTR mentioned the State government’s proposal for an elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to ORR Junction near Kandlakoya on National Highway-44. This corridor would traverse significant locations including Secunderabad, Tadbund Junction, Bowenpally Junction, Suchitra, Kompally, and Kandlakoya villages, ultimately ending at the ORR junction near Medchal.
In his meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister KTR also appealed for the transfer of small portions of defence land to facilitate the creation of link roads and road widening in Hyderabad. The proposed road widening works would be carried out at various locations, including Kanchanbagh, the junction of Road No.1 and 12 at Banjara Hills, from Zohra Bee Dargah to Rakshapuram, from Mohammadi Lane to Andhra Flour Mill Road, and from Andhra Flour Mill to Tippu Khan Bridge.
The meeting was attended by MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MP G. Ranjith Reddy, Telangana State Planning Board’s Vice Chairman B. Vinod Kumar, and Special Chief Secretary of MA&UD Arvind Kumar.
The representations and appeals presented during this meeting reflect the State government’s commitment to addressing traffic congestion and improving the overall infrastructure of Hyderabad. The successful transfer of defence lands for these crucial road projects would significantly benefit the residents of the city and enhance their daily commute experience.
