Hyderabad: World Rhinoceros Day was celebrated today at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, with a special talk show conducted at the Rhino enclosure to educate visitors about the importance of rhinoceros conservation. Nehru Zoological Park is among the top zoos in India to successfully breed the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros and currently houses five rhinos—three males Suraj,
Sai Vijay, and Nanda) and two females (Saraswathi and Prema). Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, IFS, Director (FAC) of Zoo Parks and Curator of Nehru Zoological Park, along with officials from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), participated in the event.
Dr. Hiremath expressed his gratitude to IOCL for supporting the zoo’s conservation breeding programs. Additionally, Sri A. Krishna Murthy, a retired Indian Army officer from Shivarampally, Hyderabad, adopted an Indian Gaur for a year, donating ₹50,000 to the zoo. Dr. Hiremath thanked Sri Murthy for his gesture towards wildlife conservation.
