Hyderabad’s SHE Teams Take Swift Action, Nab 488 Offenders During Ganesh Festival

Hyderabad : To ensure the safety and well-being of women in Hyderabad city, the SHE Teams operate covertly in public places and during transit. These dedicated teams regularly patrol crowded and high-risk areas, actively deterring and responding to instances of harassment or teasing directed at women. When any such misconduct is observed, they swiftly apprehend the offenders while capturing video evidence to support their actions. These video records serve as crucial documentation for subsequent legal action against the culprits.

During the Ganesh festival in 2023, which took place from September 18th to September 28th, the SHE Teams were deployed near Ganesh Pandals and in crowded areas surrounding the festivities. Their vigilance and quick response led to the apprehension of individuals caught red-handed engaging in indecent behavior, inappropriate touching, or following women in a menacing manner, all backed by solid video evidence.

It is disheartening to note that the perpetrators in these cases hail from various professions, including auto drivers, private employees, and even government workers. Their actions were not only a source of immense discomfort for women but also a violation of their dignity, marked by inappropriate physical contact, lewd comments, and gestures.

Out of the 488 cases detected during this period, 122 have already resulted in the registration of petty cases and subsequent presentation before the Honorable Court. Some of these offenders have faced convictions, with sentences ranging from 3 to 6 days, as decided by the Magistrate. An additional 111 cases have seen warnings and counseling sessions administered. However, 255 cases remain pending, awaiting their day in court.

The SHE Teams are committed to safeguarding the women of Hyderabad and are easily accessible to the public. Individuals who experience or witness harassment or teasing can report incidents promptly through the Hyderabad City Police Whatsapp number, 9490616555, or in cases of emergency, by dialing 100. These efforts collectively aim to create a safer and more respectful environment for women in the city.
