Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park Honors Forest Martyrs on 11th September

Hyderabad(Sep, 11) : Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad is a place of significance, not only for wildlife enthusiasts but also as a symbol of dedication and sacrifice in safeguarding nature. Every year, on the 11th of September, “Forest Martyrs Day” is observed to pay tribute to those courageous forest officers and staff who have given their lives in the relentless pursuit of protecting Telangana’s forests and wildlife. These selfless acts echo the historical example of the 1730 sacrifice by 360 members of the ‘Bishnoi’ community to preserve khejri trees in Rajasthan.

In Telangana, the memory of 22 officers from various cadres who have lost their lives since 1984 reminds us of the vital role they play in safeguarding nature for current and future generations. Despite facing dangers and even assaults, their commitment remains unwavering. The state has implemented various measures, from establishing base camps and forest check posts to providing resources and vehicles to officers and staff. Wildlife conservation efforts, including managing water sources and natural grasslands, have also been instrumental. As we commemorate “Forest Martyrs Day,” we reiterate our commitment to protecting and nurturing Telangana’s invaluable natural treasures, with the support of dignitaries and officers who recognize the importance of these endeavors
