New Delhi : Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday felicitated the Indian Squash team following their maiden World Cup triumph in Chennai, calling it a “proud moment for Indian sport.” The mixed team—Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthilkumar and Anahat Singh—created history by defeating top-seeded Hong Kong 3-0 in the final, becoming only the fourth nation after Australia, England and Egypt to lift the Squash World Cup.

Lauding the team’s unbeaten run and consistent performance, Dr. Mandaviya said India is creating milestones across the sports sector, with athletes benefiting from focused support systems like the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). Youngster Anahat Singh credited the Chennai crowd for their support, while senior player Joshna Chinappa said the victory has boosted confidence ahead of the Asian Games 2026 in Japan. The team is now setting its sights on the Asian Games and the LA 2028 Olympics, where squash will make its Olympic debut.
