Hyderabad( July, 07) : The 115th Bonalu festival commenced in the old city, with the City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand-IPS visiting the Laldarwaza Mahankali Temple and performing the pooja (ritual worship).
Expressing his excitement, he mentioned that it was a thrilling experience for him and his team to attend the opening ceremony of the Laldarwaza Bonalu festivities. A unique tradition during the event involves lifting the Kotwal (a symbolic post) using a JCB machine to garland the shikhara (temple tower). This festival holds immense historical significance in Telangana. In 1908, 115 years ago, during the devastating floods of the Musi River, then the Prime Minister Sri Kishen Pershad suggested to Nizam Mahboob Ali Khan to offer prayers and offerings in this temple. Miraculously, the floods eventually subsided.
Like last year ,it was exhilarating for me to attend the opening ceremony of Laldarwaza #bonalu festivities along with my team as the Kotwal is lifted in a JCB so as to garland the shikhara.
There is lot of #history attached to this uniquely Telangana festival.
