MANUU Students Protest Govt Move to Resume 50 Acres of University Land

Hyderabad | Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University have strongly condemned the show-cause notice issued by the Ranga Reddy District Collector proposing the resumption of 50 acres of university land. Calling it a direct attack on the educational rights of marginalized and minority students, they said the move threatens the future of thousands who depend on MANUU for accessible and affordable higher education.

Former MANUU Students’ Union President and National Vice President of the Fraternity Movement, Umar Faruq, said the university land belongs to students and will not be surrendered under any circumstances. He stressed that MANUU already faces severe infrastructural shortages—limited boys’ hostels, overcrowded departments, and lack of proper facilities—and therefore requires more land for expansion, not less. “The government should focus on development, not act like a land mafia,” he said.

AUSF Working President Muqadas expressed deep concern, noting that students from remote and tribal regions consider MANUU a beacon of hope. “I come from Jammu, and for students like us, this university is a lifeline. Snatching its land is equivalent to snatching our educational rights,” she stated.

PhD scholar and AUSF MANUU member Afreen Begum emphasized the impact on women’s education. She said the university was established to promote girls’ education, yet it has only two girls’ hostels, which is grossly inadequate. “We urgently need more hostels and facilities for women students, and for that, land is essential. The government must not even think of taking away MANUU’s land,” she said.

The MANUU student community has collectively demanded the immediate withdrawal of the show-cause notice. They warned that any attempt to take over university land will face strong resistance and urged the Telangana Government to support MANUU’s growth and development to ensure inclusive and equitable education for all.
