DGP Stresses Crackdown on Criminal Gangs, Drug Offenses at Half-Yearly Crime Review Meet

Hyderabad : In a high-level crime review meeting held at the DGP Office on Thursday, Director General of Police Dr. Jitender, IPS, emphasized stringent action against organized crime and drug-related offenses across the state. The First Half-Yearly Crime Review Meeting saw the participation of senior police officers, with discussions focused on tackling criminal gangs, narcotics, and strengthening investigative mechanisms.

Coordinated by CID Additional DGP Charu Sinha, IPS, the meeting was attended by top brass including TGPA Director Abhilasha Bisht, DG Prisons Soumya Mishra, and other senior officials. DGP Dr. Jitender reiterated that strict legal frameworks are in place to handle organized crime and called on Commissioners and SPs to intensify efforts in identifying and dismantling criminal gangs operating in their respective jurisdictions.

He also highlighted that drug abuse is a growing concern, especially among youth, and urged officials to enhance both enforcement and awareness measures. The DGP directed officers to trace the sources of seized drugs, many of which are trafficked from other states.

  • EAGLE Director Sandeep Shandilya reported arrests of Nigerian nationals involved in drug trafficking.

  • Drug Control Director Shahnawaz Qasim, IPS urged stronger action against counterfeit medicines.

  • CID DIG Narayana Naik, IPS briefed on newly introduced legal provisions.

  • Legal Advisor Ajay Kumar highlighted gaps in investigation processes.

  • TGPA Director Abhilasha Bisht discussed ongoing police training programs.

  • Director of Prosecution Sambasiva Reddy spoke on legal strategies to handle organized crime.

  • WCD Secretary Anita Ramachandran emphasized synergy with Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti.

  • Professor Dr. Kripala Singh provided forensic insights, while Osmania Superintendent Dr. Rakesh explained medico-legal protocols.

  • Retired Prosecutor Dr. Ramulu analyzed legal dimensions of gang crimes.

  • DG Prisons Soumya Mishra raised concerns on prisoner escort and jail security.

  • Additional DGP Mahesh M. Bhagwat recommended focused crackdowns on Cheddi, Bhaveria, and Pardi gangs and advised using the PD Act in fake seed cases.

  • Additional DGP Swati Lakra reviewed Home Guards’ issues.

  • Joint Commissioner Joel Davis updated on traffic enforcement initiatives.

The review also included assessments of the CCTNS system, surveillance infrastructure, and district-wise law and order, with participation from Commissioners of Hyderabad, Rachakonda, Cyberabad, all Zonal IGPs, Commissioners, and SPs.
