ADGP Chairs High-Level Meeting on Prisoner Escort and Production

Hyderabad: A High-Level Committee Meeting on the production and escort of prisoners was held on Thursday at the DGP Office under the leadership of Mahesh M Bhagwat IPS, ADGP (Law & Order). The ADGP appreciated all units for achieving 100% prisoner production and issued key directives to streamline escort coordination across the state. He emphasized early communication with other states, use of dedicated WhatsApp groups for real-time updates, and stronger inter-departmental collaboration.

Concerned over low escort percentages in a few units, he instructed improvement in performance and stressed deploying trained and responsible personnel for escorting notorious criminals. In case of prisoner escapes, ADGP reminded officers to register cases under Sections 261 and 262 of BNS or 224 IPC, and suggested training for new recruits on these legal provisions. He also urged district-level consultations to implement video conferencing for prisoner production, especially during manpower-intensive periods like festivals and elections.

The ADGP further directed that any shortage of escort vehicles or drivers must be immediately reported to senior officers. He concluded with a firm message on ensuring legal compliance, prisoner dignity, and accountability.

Senior officers including Rakshita K. Murthy, IPS (DCP CAR HQ), Ramana Kumar (AIG L&O), D. Srinivas (DIG, Prisons), and officers from Prisons, SARCPL, CAR HQ, and other departments attended the meeting.
