Allegations of Election Affidavit Tampering: Telangana Minister Srinivas Goud Faces Legal Action

Update- August, 12th | 3pm

Hyderabad:Telangana police have taken action against State Minister V. Srinivas Goud and 10 others in a case involving the tampering of an election affidavit. The case was registered at Mahabubnagar Two Town police station based on the orders of a special court that deals with cases concerning Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Hyderabad.

The police have charged the Minister for Tourism and Excise, along with certain election officials, in connection with this matter. Earlier today, the special court in Nampally instructed the Mahabubnagar police to officially file a case against Srinivas Goud and the others. This directive came after a person named Raghavendra Raju filed a petition in the court, pointing out that the police had not acted despite a court order.

The court specifically ordered the police to promptly provide details about the case and confirm whether it had been registered. If the case had been registered, the court demanded that the First Information Report (FIR) and other pertinent information be submitted by evening. The court also cautioned that failure to register the case could be treated as contempt of court.

The petitioner had accused Srinivas Goud of manipulating records during the 2018 state elections. This involved altering the election affidavit before it was submitted to the returning officer in Mahabubnagar. The petitioner further alleged that important information about lands purchased by Srinivas Goud’s wife and loans acquired from banks was concealed in the affidavit.

Srinivas Goud had won from the Mahabubnagar Assembly constituency. According to the petitioner, Goud had presented three different versions of the affidavit. The petitioner claimed that the rival candidate from the BRS party had illicitly substituted the affidavit in collusion with the returning officer, thereby violating the Representation of Peoples Act. However, the minister has denied these allegations
