Hyderabad(July, 18) : Hyderabad District Congress and TPCC Mahila Congress activists took to the streets of Nampally to express their strong opposition to Minister KTR’s derogatory remarks about AICC leader Rahul Gandhi. Led by Hyderabad DCC President Sameer Waliullah and Mahila Congress President Sunita Rao, the Congress workers staged a significant protest, vociferously condemning both KCR and KTR. During the demonstration, effigies of the Chief Minister and Minister KTR were set ablaze as a symbolic gesture of their disapproval. The peaceful protest, however, encountered a minor confrontation with the police, leading to the arrest of all Congress leaders and participants, who were subsequently taken to Begum Bazar Police Station.
Addressing the media, Sameer Waliullah vehemently criticized Minister KTR’s inappropriate comments and highlighted the Congress party’s integral role in the development of agriculture in India. He emphasized the party’s initiatives such as the Green Revolution and Dairy Revolution, as well as the construction of major irrigation projects like Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam, and Sriram Sagar. Waliullah pointed out that these endeavors have not only boosted agricultural productivity but also transformed India into a net exporter of food grains. He urged Minister KTR to familiarize himself with historical facts and acknowledged the Congress party’s contribution to the nation’s agricultural progress.
Waliullah further emphasized that the Congress regime had implemented significant measures, including the waiver of crop loans and the provision of free electricity to farmers in Andhra Pradesh. In contrast, he criticized Minister KTR’s prior employment as a dishwasher in an American hotel and questioned his credibility to comment on Rahul Gandhi. Waliullah attributed KCR’s position as Chief Minister to the Congress’ granting of statehood for Telangana, while KTR’s ministerial role was primarily due to his relation to KCR. The Congress leader accused KTR of attempting to divert attention from the alleged scam behind the false claims of 24-hour power supply to farmers, recently exposed by TPCC President Revanth Reddy.
Mahila Congress President Sunitha Rao echoed these sentiments, highlighting the BRS government’s failure to fulfill its promises to farmers, including the non-waiver of crop loans, absence of free fertilizers and seed subsidies, and the lack of compensation for crop losses caused by natural disasters. She asserted that Telangana was the only state in the country without crop insurance for farmers. Rao suggested that KTR’s inappropriate comments were an attempt to divert attention from the discontent among farmers, who were eagerly awaiting the fulfillment of Rahul Gandhi’s assurances, including crop loan waivers, financial assistance per acre, and fair prices for their produce.
Rao demanded an unconditional apology from KTR to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. She warned that unless KTR and other BRS leaders apologized, they would be barred from entering villages by Congress members and farmers, who were determined to teach the BRS government a lesson in the upcoming Assembly elections
