Minister KTR Seeks Central Assistance for Urban Development Initiatives

New Delhi(June, 24) : Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao met with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi to discuss various development initiatives and seek the central government’s assistance. During the meeting, KTR presented several requests, focusing on improving public transportation, enhancing cleanliness, and strengthening waste management in the state of Telangana.

One of the key requests made by KTR was to expedite the approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail line from BHEL to Lakdikapul and the Metro line from Nagole to LB Nagar. The Minister emphasized the importance of these projects and submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for consideration.

KTR also sought financial assistance for the implementation of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in the Kokapet area, which is rapidly emerging as the new Central Business District (CBD) of Hyderabad. Additionally, he appealed for support in extending missing link roads connectivity up to the Outer Ring Road, with a total of 104 additional corridors identified for development.

Addressing the need for improved cleanliness and waste management, KTR requested central government’s financial support for scientific treatment and disposal of legacy leachate, procurement of tertiary vehicles with closed containers, and the development of modern transfer stations. He highlighted the significance of these initiatives in ensuring effective waste management in the state.

Furthermore, KTR put forth a proposal to introduce a National Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (NUEGS), similar to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), to assist the urban poor across the country.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expressed admiration for the Sanitation Hub initiative of the Telangana government and acknowledged its potential to address various challenges in municipal development. He invited the state to share its innovative ideas and provide further details at an upcoming meeting organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

KTR extended an invitation to the Union Minister to visit Hyderabad and witness firsthand the progress and impact of various urban development projects, including double bedroom houses, SRDP link roads, sanitation programs, solid waste management, and liquid waste management initiatives implemented by the Telangana government.
