Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Secunderabad, with the support of Railway Protection Force (RPF), successfully apprehended a murder suspect in connection with the killing of a passenger aboard Train No. 12714 Shatavahana Express. The accused, identified as Lingappa, a 28-year-old laborer, allegedly murdered Chirutha Dinesh, a 25-year-old passenger, in a robbery attempt on November 1, 2024. Authorities also seized an abandoned backpack containing 10.435 kg of dry ganja, valued at Rs. 2,60,875, on Platform No. 10 of Secunderabad Railway Station.
Case 1: Murder Arrest
The accused, Lingappa, hails from Bijapur district in Karnataka and has a history of petty thefts since moving to Hyderabad. On November 1, he reportedly attempted to snatch a mobile phone from Dinesh, who was traveling on the Shatavahana Express. Lingappa allegedly grabbed Dinesh’s hand near Lalaguda, leading him to fall from the moving train and sustain fatal injuries. Dinesh succumbed to his injuries on November 5. Based on credible information, GRP and RPF officers apprehended Lingappa on November 13 and recovered the stolen mobile phone.
Case 2: Ganja Seizure
On November 12, GRP Secunderabad, along with RPF, conducted a surprise inspection at Platform No. 10, where they discovered an unattended backpack containing 10.435 kg of ganja. The contraband, estimated to be worth Rs. 2,60,875, was seized and is under investigation.
B.Saieashwar Goud, IRP/SHO along with M.A Majeed, SIRP/SC and staff with RPF staff apprehended the accused and seized dry Ganja 10.435 Kgs under the supervision of Gone Sandeep, incharge, SRP Secunderabad and S.N. Jawed, DSRP SC(U). IGP Railway and Road Safety K.Ramesh Naidu, IPS appreciated the officers and men of GRP Secunderabad and they will be rewarded suitably.
